As Big As A Barn Door!

I'm sure that you have seen that barn-style doors are all the rage right now. HGTV must be getting big bucks from whoever they buy their doors from because it seems every time I'm watching they are installing one and telling me how easy it is and that anyone can do it. To which I always say, "Why yes, anyone could do it if we all had personal carpenters and people to hang things..." Duh, Genevieve.. ANYWAY, that's beside the point. I really started thinking hard about them when I decided it was time to fix a problem. Take a look at the entrance to my master bathroom.

Do you spy my problem? We have NO DOORS. I'm standing from the edge of our bed, and you have a clear shot straight to the potty. Let me tell you, it's super fun to have the windows open in our bedroom and be sitting on the potty and see someone walking up to the door. You kind of freeze and think, "Can they see me? I can see them pretty well, and I don't really want anyone to see me right now..." Yeah, it's super fun, NOT. So, I was sitting watching HGTV, and freaking Genevieve or someone was telling me how easy it is to install these barn doors so I sent Cliff a picture of a barn door and said what do you think? Take a look at the picture I sent him.

Well, my husband was a little hesitant. In his defense, I think it was because he thought I truly wanted a yellow door in our room. As you can see, my house somewhat resembles Joseph's coat of many colors. I went a little crazy with my paint colors, but you know- it works for us. As long as it works for you- do it and don't worry about what anybody else thinks! I remember when the guys were painting and asked me about four times, "Are you sure?" Yup, pretty sure... But I'll leave that soap box there for a later date. ANYWAY, what I was really thinking was more along these lines...

So let's definitely go with the double doors. Those are for me and they are calling my name. However, let me just burst your bubble and tell you that I've already researched some on these doors, and the hardware ALONE can be over $1000! Can you believe that?! That doesn't even include the beautiful and perfectly distressed and aged doors. I was blown away. Luckily, I found a few blogs in my travels that have calmed me down a little bit. For example, StyleBerry, is written by a military wife who really wanted barn doors, and was able to do it herself for under $300! This is one of the reasons that I love the internet, blogging, Pinterest, the whole gambit. If you want to do something, there is a good chance that someone has done something close to it and can give you advice and a lot of times steps to make it even better! So good!

Anyway, I feel like I'm having to redirect myself quite a few times in this post.. Oh well, Cliff is still very hesitant about this whole project. Unfortunately, I will have to leave this blog post with no ending at this current moment. I would love to tell you, "Oh yeah, here are the after photos!" But no such luck. It's still the summer, which means my husband's job (youth minister) is still in full swing and he keeps telling me that our projects need to wait until we are home for more than 6 days at a time. What a Scrooge! Why wouldn't he want to devote his spare time to all my projects... Ugh! JUST KIDDING!! This summer has been nuts. Just getting carpet this week was a month long ordeal, and all we really had to do was choose a swatch we liked. I can't imagine undertaking a huge project right now, but August I can do.

So hopefully you will see an after to this post very soon! If I can get Cliff on board... Literally, and get him to make me doors haha! :)
